Moments of Magic: Fertility, Fat-Soluble Vitamins, and Chinese Medicine

Moments of Magic: Fertility, Fat Soluble Vitamins, and Chinese Medicine

Larry Welsh M.Ac. M.A.

A few years back, I had a patient who had severe polycystic ovary syndrome and she was having a heck of time conceiving a second child.  She called me up and asked me if Chinese medicine could help her conceive.  She was skeptical for sure.  I said yes, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine will enhance her fertility, help resolve the PCOS, and help with returning balance to her body, mind, and spirit.  So we started treatment with weekly acupuncture and daily Chinese herbs.  We also increased her daily intake of fat soluble vitamins from chlorophyll, butter, organic certified liver and much more.   Within about 8 months she and her husband were incredulous and overjoyed that she was pregnant.  Then she came in towards the end of her pregnancy because the baby was breech and she wanted to have a vaginal birth.  Once again, she was very, very skeptical.  I treated her 3-4 times with specific acupuncture points to turn the baby and had her do daily home moxibustion treatment on the same points.  Within 2-3 weeks, the baby shifted position and was no longer breech.  She had a vaginal birth even though her first child had been cesarean.    [Read more…] about Moments of Magic: Fertility, Fat-Soluble Vitamins, and Chinese Medicine

How To Sprout Your Grains

One of the most important areas for food preparation is to sprout your grains. This is in essence a process of pre-digestion and thus optimizes assimilation for you and your tummy. This doesn’t mean that little sprouts will appear. But it does mean pre-soaking all grains like barley, wheat, buckwheat, rice, millet, amaranth, quinoa, and oats for 7-12 hours in pure water before cooking and then cook over the lowest possible heat once brought to a gentle boil. You can add 4 tablespoons of fresh squeezed lemon juice to the soaking grains or apple cider vinegar or liquid whey which helps to ferment the grains and sprout them. This allows the grains to open and soften and release their nutritional benefits more fully for better absorption and easier digestion. [Read more…] about How To Sprout Your Grains

Earaches

One area that often benefits from oriental medicine is earaches. Acupuncture and herbs can effectively treat ear infections. However, a simple home remedy is to take a half cup of organic olive oil, place 2-3 cloves of peeled garlic in the oil. Place in an amber glass jar on the window sill for a week in the sun and wallah, you have a good source of ear drops to place in the infected ear, 4 times per day. Just place 4 drops in the infected ear. [Read more…] about Earaches

What Does Acupuncture Treat?

Most people have heard that acupuncture can treat and reduce pain. It can do that. But it also can treat many different problems by returning balance. Balance has to do with the wellness of spirit, of emotions, of body and what we eat, what we think. And by such rebalancing, many illnesses can be helped such as pain, digestive problems, insomnia, colds and flus, menopausal problems like hot flashes, skin rashes, fatigue, headaches, chemotherapy side effects, immune system weakness and injuries.

Five Seasons of Health

Oriental medicine is used throughout the world to treat many conditions of illness and imbalance. Included within the practice of oriental medicine is acupuncture, herbal medicine, therapeutic massage, Tai chi, chi gong practices and dietary changes. The foundation of health each and every day of our lives is based upon how we take care of ourselves in body, mind and spirit. The key is to follow the natural rhythms and cycles of life as they are expressed in the 5 seasons and the 5 elements. The 5 seasons are spring, summer, late summer, autumn and winter. The 5 elements that are paired with each season are wood, fire, earth, metal and water respectively. [Read more…] about Five Seasons of Health
